Hi! Thanks for reading my new wine
blog! I'll try to keep it as interesting as possible. I'm Tracy, and this
semester I'm going to have a blast learning about wine. My motivations for
taking Geography of Wine are pretty simple: I want to have fun and I’m tired of
that nervous "uhhhhh" moment when a waiter/bartender asks what I'd
like to drink, so it's time to get educated.
Things I currently know about wine:
it tastes good, it makes me feel fancy, it comes from a grape, there a bunch of
different kinds and there's an optimal time and place to drink each one. So
basically, I've got a long way to go. During my first wine tasting at the
Vintage Cellar (my next post!), after each sip I struggled to come up with
descriptions other than "this tastes like wine". My hope is that at
the end of the semester I can look back at some of the earlier blog posts and
1. laugh at how dumb I sound and 2. be proud of all the new things I've
learned.
My previous experiences with wine
tasting are limited to 1 winery visit with a friend this year and a few times
at restaurants where we tasted wines before picking which bottle to buy with
dinner. In both cases I had to rely on other people’s impressions and opinions
of the different wines. Plus, I didn't employ the “sniff and swirl” technique
so basically the entire tasting was a failure. The wines were all good, but I’m
really looking forward to being able to form my own educated opinions.
That’s enough for the intro post,
stay tuned for more adventures in wine!
What if I laugh at how dumb you sound to begin with?
